Japanese Maples, scientific name Acer Palmatum, is a species of woody plant native to Korea, Japan, China, and Russia. Depending upon the particular variety of Japanese Maples, they can be a small shrub-like tree or grow to 15-20 feet. The most popular variety is Bloodgood, which can be red, red-green or green and typically are tall at maturity. Best location is dappled shade, but they can adapt to full sun. Their growth rate is 1-2 feet a year. Our trees have been fertilized with Osmocote slow-release fertilizer and grow in most soils in our area.
